Marin County Fire Chiefs announce READY, SET, GO wildfire action plan

On June 3rd, 2010, the Marin County Fire Chiefs Association will be launching the READY, SET, GO (RSG) Plan to educate residents on the threats posed by wildfire, and to implement an action plan that gives residents the tools to prepare themselves, their families, and their homes from the devastating effects of wildfire.

Ready Set Go FAQ's:

What is RSG?

-RSG is a program designed to teach personal responsibility to those people who elect to live within the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) incorporating them into the wildland fire solution by educating them in wildland fire preparation, prevention, evacuation, and what to do if trapped.

Will fire departments be teaching RSG classes?

-There will be no classes as all program material will be available for viewing or download via the RSG website.

Who is the target audience?

-Homeowners and residents in or near the WUI.

Is this regulatory?  Are there mandates?

-No.  This is a public education campaign only.  It is intended to increase awareness of the threat and to provide materials to assist the public in developing an emergency plan.

Is anyone else using or promoting this program?

-This program is being adopted by the Marin County Fire Chiefs for all fire agencies in Marin.  It began in southern California in Orange and Ventura Counties.  It has been approved for national rollout through the IAFC.

As a citizen, where can I get my information?

-You can visit the website at www.readysetgomarin.org.  There you will find pdf documents for download, a 12 minute informational video, and and links to other wildfire preparedness websites.  Every Marin County fire agency will have the information and link available on their website, and some departments may provide additional printed materials at their stations.

Who is the contact for RSG?

-There is no countywide contact person.  Queries should be directed to the department that serves your area.

Does this program support or replace the Get Ready program?

-This is a separate program from Get Ready.  Unlike Get Ready, there will be no classes taught or banners posted. Get Ready is a broader program on threat awareness and basic preparation.  Ready Set Go is specific to wildfire.
