Public Education
Public Education seeks to achieve the widest possible dissemination of information relating to fire and other life safety hazards within the community. The Public Education Specialist utilizes all the resources of the department to educate the citizens to accomplish this goal. This concern reflects our departments commitment to be as vitally involved in fire prevention as in fire suppression. The Southern Marin Fire Protection District (SMFD) must have the active cooperation of the community in the prevention of fire and the reduction of fire risks. This combined effort can be accomplished through a mutual interchange of ideas and information.
During Fire Prevention week each year, SMFD personnel visit local schools and children are taught safety programs using the Life Safety Trailer. If your school would like SMFD to visit at any time of year please make an appointment two weeks in advance. Station tours are always welcome at SMFD if scheduled two weeks in advance.
SMFD personnel give instruction on first aid, CPR, and disaster preparedness to the teachers of our local schools.
Arrangement for a speaking engagement at a local homeowners group needs to be made at least one month in advance.
SMFD personnel are the primary instructors for the Southern Marin Community Emergency Response Teams. (CERT)
