At 0029 hours on September 18th, 2022 a vehicle traveling southbound on Bridgeway in Sausalito did not turn west around the corner at Bridgeway and Richardson resulting in a high impact collision into the building at 203 Richardson. The vehicle into the building caused major damage to the four unit building, including structural damage.
The structure will need to be evaluated by the City of Sausalito as soon as possible to determine building status. Residents of all four units have been displaced until a determination of structural integrity can be made. The building property manager was also contacted and a voicemail was placed.
Crews worked to stabilize the structure, control a water leak, and performed salvage operations inside the lower unit. Crews also placed visqueen and plywood to the exterior opening that was created by the vehicle. Both gas and electrical were disconnected by PG&E and caution tape was placed at the exterior of the damaged building.
Southern Marin Fire would like to remind residents to please take caution while driving. Distracted driving has become a deadly epidemic on our roads and in 2019 distracted driving killed 3,142 people. Follow these safety tips for a safe ride every time:
• Need to send a text? Pull over and park your car in a safe location. Only then is it safe to send or read a text.
• Designate your passenger as your “designated texter.” Allow them access to your phone to respond to calls or messages.
• Do not scroll through apps, including social media, while driving.
• If tired behind the wheel, avoid driving very late at night or early in the morning. Please pull over, park and turn off your vehicle, and rest for at least thirty minutes.
