High Tides Are Back This November 2024 - January 2025: Based on tide predictions published by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration(NOAA), tides levels that could be high enough to cause roadway flooding in parts of Marin, primarily coastal areas, are expected November 15-17, December 13-15, 2024, and January 11-13, 2025. If a high tide coincides with a significant storm, a tidal surge can occur, causing higher than predicted water levels. 2024: Nov 15, 10:04 AM, 6.9 feet Nov 16, 10:43 AM, 7.0 feet Nov 17, 11:26 AM, 6.8 feet Dec 13, 8:54 AM, 6.9 feet Dec 14, 9:37 AM, 7.0 feet Dec 15, 10:22 AM, 7.0 feet Dec 16, 11:08 AM, 6.8 feet 2025: Jan 11, 08:34 AM, 6.8 feet Jan 12, 09:25 AM, 6.8 feet Jan 13, 10:13 AM, 6.7 feet Southern Marin Fire District strongly encourages residents in low-lying areas to prepare for all upcoming high tide events. Some Tips to Prepare for Flooding: ● Move vehicles to higher ground, especially in flood-prone areas. ● Move items stored in low-lying areas, such as basements or other areas that have flooded in the past. ● Driving through flooded roads is dangerous! ⏰️ Reminder - Time to get your annual chimney inspected! Your chimney should be inspected annually by a qualified professional who can check to make sure it’s structurally sound and in good working order. In addition to cleaning, a professional chimney sweep should be able to check your chimney for cracks or loose bricks. Don't have a wood-burning chimney? Gas fireplaces can cause problems too. Your furnace or water heater could be vented into your chimney, and if the chimney is blocked for any reason, carbon monoxide could be coming into your home. That’s why it’s important to have both carbon monoxide and smoke detectors in your home. [ID: stock image of chimney with black smoke coming out of it.]
