Fire Prevention Standards

In an effort to provide consistent and reliable guidance while planning and implementing commercial and residential improvements and alterations, standards have been developed. These standards are to assist while applying specific requirements found in codes, regulations, and local ordinances.

Each fire agency has specific standards that meet the amendments to the California Fire Code adopted by the jurisdiction. Choose from one of the options below that meets the designated fire agency.

The fire prevention division is guided by the adoption of the current 2022 California Fire Code (effective January 1st, 2023) as it was amended separately by both the Southern Marin Fire District and the City of Mill Valley Fire Department prior to consolidation. Visit the Prevention Ordinances page for more details.
