Knox logoSouthern Marin Protection District uses the Knox Entry System to allow secure access to businesses and residences by the Fire Department during an emergency.

A Knox Key Box is a secure box that is mounted externally to a commercial building that contains access keys in the event of an emergency.

A key box is required where:

  • access to building is difficult
  • in buildings with fire alarm or sprinkler systems
  • all facilities that are required to submit a hazardous materials business plan
  • where electronic and manual gates could hamper emergency access

The Knox Key Box models that are approved by the Mill Valley Fire Department are:

  • 3200 series - Standard Box
  • 4400 series - Heavy Duty/Vault
  • 3500 series - Key Switches for gates
  • Padlocks - for gates
