Southern Marin Protection District uses the Knox Entry System to allow secure access to businesses and residences by the Fire Department during an emergency.
A Knox Key Box is a secure box that is mounted externally to a commercial building that contains access keys in the event of an emergency.
A key box is required where:
- access to building is difficult
- in buildings with fire alarm or sprinkler systems
- all facilities that are required to submit a hazardous materials business plan
- where electronic and manual gates could hamper emergency access
The Knox Key Box models that are approved by the Mill Valley Fire Department are:
- 3200 series - Standard Box
- 4400 series - Heavy Duty/Vault
- 3500 series - Key Switches for gates
- Padlocks - for gates
All Knox Box purchases can be made online.
