In November 2018 citizens of the Southern Marin Fire District and City of Sausalito approved Measure U, an ordinance authorizing the collection of a parcel tax to ensure continued funding of the fire district, and to expand services and programs to reduce the threat from wildfire. The Measure details the following areas of authorized expenditure of the Measure's revenues:
- Maintaining local emergency medical services.
- Attracting and maintaining qualified professional paramedics.
- Maintaining high cardiac and stroke survivability standards.
- Maintaining local fire protection.
- Maintaining rapid 9-1-1 response times.
- Improving the District's ability to react to and contain wildland fires.
The enacted ordinance further required to creation of a citizen oversight committee charged with reviewing and reporting on all revenues and expenditures related to the tax from the adopted ordinance. The ordinance further requires that these reports are made available to the public. This website shall serve the purpose of informing the voters with the enacted ordinance language, the adopted by-laws of the citizen oversight committee, a list and contact information for each of the five appointed members of the citizen oversight committee, and all financial statements, meeting agendas and meeting minutes, and activities related to the citizen oversight committee.
